Mars Snacking is putting Cheez-It and Club crackers into resealable canisters for the first time, a format move squarely aimed at the grab-and-go snack occasion that convenience retailers have spent years building shelf space around. The three-SKU lineup hits select retailers nationwide this month at a suggested retail price of $2.69.

The New SKUs

The canister lineup includes Cheez-It Original, Cheez-It Grooves Minis Sharp White Cheddar — described as a brand-new mini version of the ridged Grooves line — and Club Minis Original. All three are packaged in resealable cans designed to keep crackers crunchy through multiple snacking occasions, a practical feature for commuters and travelers picking up a snack at the forecourt.

Nicole Sorensen, VP of Marketing, Crackers at Mars Snacking, framed the launch around a clear consumer need state. "Easy, on-the-go snacking is a top need for our fans," she said. "By bringing these popular Cheez-It and Club crackers to this grab-and-go format, we're giving people a simple way to enjoy their favorites anywhere, anytime."

C-Store Relevance

For c-store operators, the canister format addresses a persistent challenge in the salty-snack aisle: keeping a single-serve or small-share package intact through a commute or road trip. Traditional pillow-bag formats dominate the category but offer no reclosure. The resealable can borrows a mechanic long proven in the nuts and Pringles segments — both strong performers in convenience — and applies it to the cracker set, which has been among the faster-growing salty-snack subcategories in the channel.

Salty snacks remain a top inside-sales driver across the convenience channel. NACS data has consistently shown snacks and candy as one of the highest-margin in-store categories, and portable, resealable packaging tends to support higher price-per-ounce realization compared with standard bag formats. At $2.69 SRP, the Cheez-It and Club canisters sit in a price tier that competes directly with single-serve nut canisters and premium cracker packs already common in c-store snack sets.

Mars, the parent company behind a portfolio that now includes Pringles and Cheez-It following its Kellanova integration, is one of the largest salty-snack suppliers to the convenience channel. The Grooves Minis Sharp White Cheddar variety is also new to market in this launch, giving category managers a reason to allocate incremental shelf space rather than simply swap in a new package type for an existing SKU. Operators evaluating planogram resets this fall should weigh whether the canister's footprint — taller and narrower than a standard bag — fits existing snack-fixture gondolas or requires a dedicated section near single-serve beverages and dispensed beverage stations where impulse grab-and-go traffic is highest.

What's Next

Mars has not announced additional varieties or package sizes beyond the initial three-SKU drop. Distribution is described as select retailers nationwide, language that typically signals a phased rollout with broader availability to follow. C-store buyers not yet in the initial wave should expect distributor availability to expand through Q4 2026.
