The Product

Hanover Foods Corp. is moving into the GLP-1 consumer segment with Skinny Veg®, a four-SKU line of frozen blended vegetable and grain sides built around a strict five-ingredient formula. Each product contains one vegetable, one grain or legume, avocado oil, pepper, and sea salt — no additives, no preservatives. The Pennsylvania-based, family-owned manufacturer began rolling the line into select retail doors in August and is targeting full-network distribution in early 2027.

The four SKUs are Broccoli & Quinoa, Brussels Sprouts & Couscous, Spinach & Blackeye Peas, and Riced Cauliflower & Lentils. The portfolio leans heavily on high-fiber, high-protein pairings — a deliberate play for shoppers on semaglutide and tirzepatide medications who typically eat smaller portions and prioritize nutrient density over caloric volume.

Why the GLP-1 Angle Matters

The GLP-1 weight-loss drug market has become one of the most-watched demand signals in packaged food. Industry researchers have estimated that tens of millions of Americans could be on GLP-1 medications within the next several years, with significant downstream effects on snack, beverage, and frozen food category volumes. For c-store operators, that shift is already visible at the dispensed beverage bar and roller grill — smaller-format, lower-calorie, higher-protein items are posting stronger turns in foodservice programs at chains tracking the trend.

Frozen grab-and-go and heat-and-eat options represent a growing convenience channel opportunity as well. Several regional chains have added dedicated better-for-you frozen sections or expanded their healthy snack and better-for-you assortment to capture the GLP-1 consumer who shops convenience for speed but demands cleaner ingredient panels.

CEO Jeff Warehime framed the launch around simplicity and trust. "We believe the ingredient list should be the least surprising part of your meal," he said. "Our Skinny Veg sides have just five simple ingredients. No additives or preservatives. Just real food for real people." Hanover, founded in 1924, operates 12 facilities across the United States and Guatemala and employs roughly 3,000 people.

Channel Implications

For c-store buyers, the Skinny Veg® line signals that mainstream regional suppliers are engineering SKUs specifically for the GLP-1 shopper — not merely repackaging legacy better-for-you items. Clean-label frozen sides that microwave in minutes fit the convenience channel's heat-and-eat format and could complement existing foodservice and frozen meal sets at stores with expanded cooler and freezer footprints. Hanover's established retail distribution network also suggests the line could achieve meaningful shelf presence quickly once the full 2027 rollout begins, giving category managers an early window to evaluate fit ahead of spring resets.
