Mondelēz International's CLIF brand is stepping into the high-protein bar segment with its first dedicated entry, the CLIF High Protein Bar, rolling to retailers nationwide this month at a suggested retail price of $7.49 per 4-count box — roughly $1.87 per bar.

The launch marks a deliberate category extension beyond the brand's core energy-bar franchise. CLIF High Protein Bars deliver 20 grams of protein per bar alongside 5 grams of fiber, using a blend of soy and whey protein sources combined with rolled oats, creamy nut butters, and nuts. The dual-benefit positioning — high protein plus carbohydrate-sourced energy — is designed to separate the SKU from straight protein bars that compete on protein content alone.

Two Flavors, One Strategy

The initial lineup ships in two flavors: Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Cinnamon French Toast. The latter, inspired by a breakfast occasion, leans on almonds and almond butter and targets the all-day snacking window that has become a core battleground in convenience. Neither flavor contains artificial sweeteners, a differentiator CLIF is calling out explicitly as the better-for-you snack bar shelf grows more crowded.

"Consumers are looking for protein-rich snacks to help fuel their busy lifestyles, and the CLIF brand saw the opportunity to build on our energy bar portfolio with an innovation that offers a unique duality: 20 grams of protein with everyday energy," said Joe Pellingra, Senior Director, CLIF and LUNA brands at Mondelēz International.

C-Store Relevance

For convenience operators, the launch lands squarely in the grab-and-go nutrition bar section, one of the faster-turning single-serve snack categories inside the store. High-protein formats have been among the strongest performers on the bar fixture as shoppers increasingly treat the c-store as a functional nutrition stop, not just a sugar-and-caffeine run. NACS data has consistently shown that packaged snacks — particularly better-for-you items — over-index for basket-building when positioned near the register or in a dedicated nutrition bay.

Mondelēz's distribution muscle through its broader Mondelēz snack portfolio gives CLIF High Protein Bars a strong path to rapid national shelf placement, including in chain accounts where the parent company already holds planogram real estate with OREO, belVita, and RITZ. That velocity advantage matters for buyers evaluating new protein bar SKUs against established players like Quest, RXBar, and ONE Bar.

The $7.49 multipack price point positions the line as a value-per-serving option relative to premium single-serve protein bars that retail between $3.00 and $4.00 individually. Operators stocking the 4-count box on the back-of-house snack shelf or in a dedicated grab-and-go cooler can expect it to appeal to the same shopper segment driving dispensed protein shake and functional beverage growth.
